9 May 2009Japanese PS3 sales continue to outsell Wii and Xbox

According to Media Create, the Sony PS3 sold more units than the Wii and Xbox 360 for the third week in a row (week ending 3 May) with 23,588 sales against 21,546 for the Wii and just 7,312 for the Xbox 360.

Media Create have announced that the Sony PS3 sold more units than Nintendo’s Wii in Japan during the March sales period. Sony shifted 116,000 units against the Wii’s 70,000.

Developer Free Radical Design, currently working on TimeSplitters 4, has lost almost 80% of its workforce since going into administration on 18 December. Unless the company is sold current commissions are unlikely to be released.

SCEE’s Dave Reeves has stated to website MVC that the European user base of the Sony PS3 is thousands ahead of the Xbox 360. It looks like the holiday season sales period will be all important this year.

According to Eurogamer, the PS3 Wireless Keypad accessory will be released on November 28 for around £24.99. The Wireless Keypad fits on the back of a PS3 Sixaxis or DualShock 3 controller allowing better use of the PS3’s web browser.
